hiv scare- anxiety

i had sex with a prostitute who i think was hiv positive.
it was a 5 minute quickie but when i pulled out i noticed the condom was broke and was half off. I don't know if the other half was inside her or not.
i would say tht i started to feel ill after just over a week after exposure. i was on holiday at the time and my mates also had sore throats and were ill.
since, i have swollen glands which has lasted 2 weeks no fever or diarrea or vommiting or nausea but i have a sore throat and a slight cough. I also have white coating on the back of my tongue. I have a discomfort in my penis but it only happens when i am thinking about having hiv. I have no pian when i am urinating or any discharge but have been frequently urinating. i have been having a faster heartbeat than usual and somtimes have pins and needles. I have also been struggling to sleep. I dont feel i have fatigue or lapses in energy i play a lot of golf and still get round the course no problem. i am also eating as normal and have not lost any weight

I have been reading stuf on the internet and i am becoming petrified. i am living life now as if i have the disease.
i was wondering if anxiety and worrying can cause the likes of whiteness on the tongue or any other symptoms?
i went to the doctors and he said i had a bad viral infection and gave me pills which did help but i still have the swollen neck glands.
i have been to the sex clinic and have had tests for chlamydia and gonnorea and have a hiv test booked in for 12 weeks away.
are the risks low if i was only having sex for 5 minutes and the exposure time was only mmaybe 3 minutes.
i was on holiday at the time with my mates and was consuming a lot of alcohol and hardly had any sleep can this all contribute to me feeling like this?
i have been back for 2 weeks and the swollen glands in my neck are still there though and that is what is worrying me the most and the whitenss in the tongue.

any help would be appreciated
cheers

You cannot go by symptoms. Test at 3 months and obtain your conclusive result. You were protected until the condom failed so your risk will be lower than not using a condom at all.

i know i need to get off the internet but i am so paranoid just now i feel fine i almost feel back to normal the only symptoms that i am worried about is swollen glands. i havent had a fever but was shaking sometimes and i think this due to anxiety. when im not thinking about having hiv i am ok but as soon as i start to think about the future i start to become scared and start to look for symptoms and i know this isnt a good idea.

hi,
im going thru the same thing as well....i have to wait till sept. to take my 12 week test and i am so down....all i could tell u is either wait... or take one at 6 weeks to have an idea..if it comes out positive they will give u another test...i think the WB to make sure.  That one takes two weeks for results...I took my test 30 days exact and came out negative but i am still paranoyd....they said i gotta wait 3 months and that feels like forever to me..get off the internet cause u will get more anxious reading all kinds of symptoms....i should take my own advice....

Hey Rossco,

Best thing to do is hit the clinic, and have an HIV test right now. Technically, you need to wait for at least 6 weeks for a test to be as conclusive as possible, but doing it now might reassure you.

Then, all the symptoms you're describing refer to a) a cold and b) anxiety. I'm having the exact same thing as I'm typing this to you (yet I've only been receiving a blowjob), but my cold went away and I'm just back from taking a first test a the clinic today.

Ask the doctor for some anxiety-suppressants, because lack of sleep and eating will make you feel worse, even if  you don't have HIV. Try to drink some Ensure or Boost if you can't eat because of stress.

And if you can find that prostitute again, ask her (or pay her) to get tested. It's the best way to  know for sure.

Hang in there man, you're not alone.

Cheers,

Dave

are these symptoms related to hiv or could i just have an illness after coming back from holiday?

It might be anything. But it's not HIV specific. HIV infection has no specific symptoms. You might have got exposed to the HIV during the sex act you describe so you should get tested. Your risk is not high but it's there. Conclusive HIV test can be done 12 weeks or more after exposure.
