How long after contracting hiv does a person become infectious, is it minutes after or days or weeks, and if you are infected with hiv as early as minutes or days howcome pep can stop the virus. Another question i have is do ars symptoms ever come within 2 days of infection? Thank you for the help

The exposure was unconsenual anal and vaginal sex. I was just wondering when you are infectious after emposure assuming you have contracted hiv, and why pep works assuming you are infectious up to 72 hrs. I had many symptoms aprroximatley starting two days after and continuing till about three weeks. These symptoms were not like a flu, I was practically bed ridden, could not ever stand the sight of food for a few weeks and was vommiting , diarhea, aches all over, i also noticed white particles in urine as well as swllen nodes in my neck, after the 3 weeks of sickess started to diminish but then noticed a brown sort of like freckle rash appear on my back and arms.PLease answeer if you know or have any advice.

Ars symptoms come 2-4 weeks usually earlier then later. Second question 2 days is not long enough for symptoms to develop . Pep works in killing the virus before it invades but not always works.
