that is not actually correct. the fact of the matter is that blood "can be" trapped inside a hollow bore needle / syringe and not exposed to the elements.
now for your risk...YOU HAD NONE ! ! !
you were not injected into your vein with a syringe...hiv or no hiv
If you did not SEE someone injecting themselves, then dropping the syringe, by the time you got to that needle, if there had been HIV+ blood, the virus would already have been rendered inactive.
