possible exposure with hiv+ person with condom

I am 20 years old.  Last night I had protected anal sex with a guy who is HIV+.  I was the bottom and he was the top.  I found out after we had sex that he was HIV+ and he said his viral load is undetectable (not sure what that means).  I am almost positive that the condom did not break during sex.  I am very worried that even if the condom didn't break or did break that I am now positive myself.  Can someone offer some insight to what my chances of getting infected by this one time encounter with a person who is HIV+, protected anal sex, and me being the bottom.

thanks!

You are doing what Vance told you - "What ifs".

Condom breakages are evident. You don't need to test and NO, a test result, 25 days post exposure wouldn't give you a conclusive result. For some one with a REAL exposure, the best bet would be a 6 week post exposure - Indicative result (6 week changing ahead is very unlikely) and a 12 weeks post exposure for a conclusive.

I think, this is the best we could do for you. You have 2 options, either to accept the rational advice we offer you or traumatize yourself, embrace the ordeal, endure the window period and test to find out a negative and realize "Should have heard these guys". You decide.

Good Luck.

Mike, thanks for the clarification.  I am really worried after the encounter.  I had trouble sleeping all night.  I am almost certain that the condom did not break.  He told me later that he rechecked the condom a couple of times to make sure.  I am just worried that somehow there was a chance of exposure.  When should I go get tested?  After 25 days?  Is that enough time to go get tested?

Thanks for the reply!  I am just not positive about whether the condom actually prevented the transmission.  What worries me is the fact that he is hiv+.  When should I go get tested?  I read somewhere that 25 days after exposure should be able to detect antibodies.  Is that true?

What Vance said and just in the interest of your awareness and other posters who aren't aware - An HIV positive individual being 'undetectable' on viral load doesn't mean that he or she has a changed sero-status / cured. It only means that they are still HIV positive. However, with no to very low viral genetic material multiplication in their blood samples.

You wore a condom and it didn't break, you are okay.

Oh and we don't answer "What ifs" so please don't ask "what it the condom broke".

Protected sex is safe sex, you had no risk. Had the condom broken you probably would have known and he would have known.
