question about the saliva test.....

How come the CDC says that you can't contract HIV from saliva but they test saliva for HIV? Is the virus dead when they obtain it for the test? Is it inactivated? Is it just in minute quantities? I guess my question as a whole would be if it is there to detect for a result wouldn't it be there to infect? Does anyone know hoe that actually works?

Test looks for antibodies. Antibodies is the body's defense against illness. So antibodies are produced when you have a cold to when you have HIV.
