spit and hiv/aids

I am a married heterosexual 29 year old woman.  Last night was a friend of mine's birthday party and we went to a gay bar.  There was a homosexual man with us.  While he was talking to me he was spitting.  I have a fever blister and his spit hit my mouth....am I at risk?

You realize that the more you look stuff up on the internet the worse its going to be.  IN terms of blood if the guy you came in contact with was gushing blood out of his mouth then may be, but why would you be in front of someone like that, you wrouldnt. Move along, you dont need testing, and you definately do not have HIV.

The situation you described in an impossible situation to transmit HIV. It is not a slim risk, it is impossible.

That PA does not understand how HIV is transmitted obviously.

So you saw his physician assistant (PA)?  Go to a place where they test for HIV, like an HIV testing facility (not a lab), just a place where they do rapid testing for example, tell them your story, and see what they tell you.

You were never at risk, no one has ever contracted the disease in such a fashion, a lot of people do not know enough about this disease because they have never been exposed or dealt with patients that ever had it.  So of course you will get answers like that, unfortunately even by health care providers. Your risk is not slim to none, its NONE for all purposes, saliva does not transmit the virus, a lot of people spit when they talk to others, no one has ever been infected that way.

I went to the dr this morning and seen his P.A. she was not so reassuring.  In one instance she said it was slim to none and then said she could test me.  She said it wasn't like the guy kissed me.  What would that make a difference.  She told me that even if he was hiv+ she thought I would still be ok.  I guess I am going to test in three months.  I just don't know how to ease my mind any other way.  In three months would my test be conclusive.  Thanks for the help.  I have a baby and it really scares me although I am sure my risk is slim!

I would never assume that!  I was just reading posts from others looking for a same situation and it seems dr's state if the person was heterosexual....and so on so I wanted to be sure that it was stated he was homosexual.  I am sorry if I offened you.  I tried to educate myself.  But when you read on the internet the information is all over the place about what you can and cannot get.  I guess I should let you know that I have OCD and my biggest fear is hiv and aids.  So I obsess over it.  And when it happened my friends did not know either if I was exposed possibly or not.  Just looking for alittle peace of mind.  Again I did not mean to offend.  I am very sorry if I did.
