swollen lymphnodes are caused by infections, inflammation, or cancers, most likley in a young healthy individual it will be an infection, anything from sinus infection, to cold soars, gingavitus to hiv, only way to really find out whats really going on with u is see your medical doctor.

you asked about PAINFUL lymph nodes.

the ONLY way to know one's status is by testing...not going to play the "symptoms" game here.

Lizzie, so your saying any swollen nodes are not caused by hiv, they are only caused if the person pushes and prods looking for them right?

oh they CAN hurt...but it's not from the actual node itself...it's from YOU prodding around on your body looking for them.

only a test can diagnose hiv.

No, i have not tested.

But do the nodes defiantly not hurt with hiv?

a better question would be...did you have an exposure and did you test?

so you would say my nodes that are hurting in my armpit and groin also are not to do with HIV?

Is it common to be able to feel your nodes in the groin?
