"There is an incubation period of a few days to a few weeks between when the person was exposed to HIV and when the symptoms begin"

"Acute HIV infection can appear like infectious mononucleosis, flu, or other viral illnesses. If symptoms occur, they are usually seen 1 - 4 weeks after becoming infected."
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000604.htm

I think 5 days is included by "a few days". in terms of lasting,
"These symptoms can last from a few days to 4 weeks, and then subside."
