Can a Pet Scan be used in a TBI when MRI can't?

I have a family member that suffered a TBI, open skull fracture, they can't do an MRI to evaluate the extent of the injury since he has bullett fragments from many years ago still close to the brain.  

Can a Pet scan be used and if so is it more accurate than a CT scan?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a PET scan often detects disease earlier than a CT scan. While a CT shows structural changes in organs or tissues, a PET scan displays the cellular-level metabolic changes that are often the first signs of disease.

hi....first of all this info is only from personal experience with a family member!
the correct term is CAT SCAN....pet scan that is cute!!
and yes it most definitetly be used safely
Unfortunatly as far as I know a cat scan is not as accurate as an MRI but does give the doctors good necessary info.
