Concussion Help

Hi last April my husband suffered a concussion while on his stag do.  He was intoxicated when he suffered the concussion and was admitted to hospital.  While at the hospital he was put on an IV and he did not know where he was.  He thought he was in Spain despite being in Nottingham.  The doctor wanted to keep him in overnight but the idiot best man did he best to get my husband released after a few hours.  I was not there so I do not know what the doctor recommended for after care and as the best man was intoxicated as well only god know what was advised.  As the concussion happened in a city that they were only visiting no after care appointments were ever made and my husband did not go to the doctor once coming back to his hometown.  The stupid thing was my husband carried on drinking heavily for the next 3 days of his stag do.  Then once arriving back in our hometown went straight back to work.  I am very concerned because I have noticed a significant change in his personality since this happened.  He is angry all the time and very hurtful with what he says.  He lashes out at everyone and anything.  He is a completely different person, he used to be so mellow before all this.  As a result of his change in personality we are now facing a divorce because I am at a loss of what to do after trying to reach out to him multiple times.  I have begged him to go back to a doctor to get his concussion checked out but he refuses.  Does it sound like he needs to seek medical help for the concussion considering he never received any after-care and continued to drink on the concussion?  Its been about 10 months since this happened so it is likely that he could still be suffering from the after affects of the concussion?  Thank you for your time.

He could have suffered damage, and the damage was untreated.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
I am sorry to hear about all this. Personality changes happen in frontal lobe injuries of the brain. Yes, it is very important that he consults a neuro-psychiatrist. Take care!
