Yeah I was just wondering because it started after she was living with this man for a good long while. I don't know it's like she's following in his footsteps LOL it's all good there are worse things than a loud tv!!
The average human startsd to have presbycusis (hearing loss due to age) at around the age of 60. So your mother may be falling in to this category. Women do not suffer from presbycusis as much as men, but they are not imune to it....
as well as you and I are not.
I hate getting old, but it beats the alternative (I guess)
It's not so much that I thougth it was contagious but more so that I thought being around the loudness of the tv and radio all of the time (she lived with him for nearly 2 years) and he was retired and she worked from the home. He always had the tv on or the radio on. I thought that maybe it could be the cause of her needing the tv louder and louder. I don't know. I didn't mean that it could be contagious in the sense that you could "catch" it. I just am noticing that my mother at the age of 54 is losing her ability to hear the tv at a normal range.
Can being around a person who is hard of hearing cause hearing damage?
Hearing loss is not cantagious.
OSHA says you can be in a 90dB area for 8+ hrs before you need to wear e-plugs at work. I doubt greatly the sound level was 90dB, and even if it were, would you be watching TV for 8+ hrs?
But if you want, go get your hearing checked, a good base line is nice to have.
