Daughter with hearing loss?

I have had hearing loss almost my whole life. When I was a child, I used to get hearing tests in school which I always "failed". When I would go on to a more extensive test, I was told that I had borderline hearing loss and there was nothing to do. I am now 43 years old and I have about 40% hearing loss. I have two hearing aids. I was told to test my children, which I did yesterday. I actually only tested my youngest child (the others were not available) and I was SHOCKED to hear that she has a hearing loss. Actually, "dismayed" would be a better word. I did not suspect that she was having any trouble whatsoever. She is excelling in school, and she doesn't seem to have any trouble hearing.
The place that I had her tested also sells hearing aids. The tester told me that it was "up to me" to get her hearing aids. I am devastated that perhaps I passed on this problem to her. I am finding it very difficult to live with hearing loss, and I just don't know what to do.
I did not tell my daughter what the results of the test were, because I was so upset.
Any advice is appreciated. Should I get a second opinion? How objective are these tests?
Thanks in advance.

I agree that you should get a second opinion. I did. However, I also think it's important to understand that IF your daughter really needs hearing aids, it will only be beneficial to her. I did not have mine in school, though I also had a diagnosed hearing loss. I withdrew socially, that was easier than not hearing direct questions my friends asked, having to ask for everything to be repeated, etc. Now, I wish I would have gotten them much sooner than I did. I also, always excelled in school despite my 60% hearing loss. Amazingly, I was in honors classes through 10th grade. I just wanted to reassure you, that yes, hearing loss can have dramatic impact on your life. But living without hearing, is not really living at all!

I think you should consult a proper audiologist before getting in to any hearing aids n all...Consult any other audiologist who is not selling hearing aids...
