hearing loss

my husband woke up one morning and his ear was plugged up.  We assumed it was sinus. After acouple days he couldnt stand it because his hearing in both ears is already bad .   We went to a doctor and was given steroids.  He went to 3 doctors and each time given steroids.  He has no hearing in that ear.  The ear drum is not damaged.  Because it was so sudden, they say it must be a virus.  Is there no hope of regaining the hearing?  He has trouble now with dizziness

Wow!  I would probably get a second opinion.  If his ears are feel clogged up and he is having dizziness it sounds like he has fluid in his inner ear.  If that's the case they should do a myringotomy (make a small incision in the ear drum and take out the fluid.  The doctor may also want to put tubes in but it's not always necessary if it's not a recurring problem)  The procedure takes 15-30 minutes in the office.  I would just see another ENT and tell him/her all of the symptoms!  Good luck I hope you get this figured out.
Also is he having any ringing in his ear?

we went to the ER and a family doc. and then the specialist and then the VA ENT  He got steroids from each one.  Nothing worked.  He has dizziness every day.

Geez, he was told "just get used to it."  Please get a SECOND opinion; someone who specializes with inner ear disorders.  There is something going on with his inner ear and/or possibly his eustachian tube.

Was he prescribed an antihistamine and/or a decongestant?

yes he did, got all the test.  He was told, your hearing is gone, its not coming back, get use to it.

Did you husband see an ENT Specialist yet?  This sounds suspicious of Labyrinthitis or another inner ear problem.
