34 and Concerned

I am a 34 slightly overweight female. With a family history of Heart Disease. Dad was 40 Mom was 50.

Last week I had a very scary episode of chest pain radiating to my right shoulder up my neck and then really severe in to my jaw. It hurt to breathe. I was close to my family doctors so I went there. I was promptly taken to the hospital by ambulance. I was given multiple nitroglycerine pills. This helped greatly. They kept me in the hospital overnight and ran rumerous test all came out negative. Test included Chest X-ray, Cat-Scan, EKG, Cardiac Stress Test, and alot of blood. In the hospital they gave me two doses of some anti-inflamatory through my IV.

Now it is  a week later and I am having similar symptom but not as bad. I have pain in my chest it feels better if  stay lying down. When I stand up the pain is 10x worse. I feel it in my neck and sometimes in my shoulder. I am hesitant to go back to the hospital and they cant find anything worng. The symptoms do not seem to be getting worse over time. They just are not getting any better either. Also when I take a deep breathe my chest kind of feel tight or a burning.

I am wondering is it likely if all the test they did last time came out negative could I actually have something wrong with my heart that they couldnt/didn't find?

I am not under any unusual stress. I have had one other health issue this year that was new as well. I went to  the ER with a ruptured ovarie and a sever colitis attack. This too was something I never had before. I have had a few blood test for anemia since then. I have been unusually tired durring the day lately.

Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Return to your doctor and as KenKeith suggests, get a reveiw of the chest pain and nitro connection. Our body's are put together with close proximity of windpipe, lungs, esophagus ( can spasm), and heart major vessels ( can spasm)/larger vessels so it is possible sometimes to get better similar complaints of pain. When I experience chest tightening or chest pain of cardiac origin, I find it difficult to take a deeper breath; this may not be the case in all people. Take care in noting your triggers that lead to the chest pain. Joan.

Can your doctor explain why your symptom of chest pain is helped with nitro?  If there is an esophageal disorder, nitro will act on that pain as well as angina (chest pain related to the heart).  Esophageal spasms can be the problem or coronary artery spasms. If a coronary spasm is not present during a test, the test may be negative.

Also, deep breath pain is usually not associated with a heart disorder. Possibly   Inflammation of the lining around the lung (pleurisy) can cause chest pain that usually feels sharp, and often gets worse when you take a deep breath or cough.
