Ablation for svt w/ abberancy

Hi.  I am a 35 year old female with a long history of svt.  I had my first episode at 14.

I have had 2 ablation attempts to correct my problem.  The first procedure was done in May of 1998. The doctor said he was unable to fix the problem. The second I had done in January of 2005.  It was at a larger hospital and they had better mapping equipment.  The doctor that done my ablation said he was unable to totally ablate the "problem" spot due to it being extremely close to my normal wiring.  He did say he thought he got some of it and only time would tell how effective it would be.  Well in March of 2005, I had another svt attack that sent me to the ER,  but since that one episode, I have not had one.  Not even for a few seconds.  Can you give me any kind of input on this?  Why would I have that one so close to having my procedure, but not have anymore in almost 2 years?  Is it possible my problem has been cured?  Thanks so much for your time.

Happy New Year!

HI THERE,ID JUST LIKE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE OF R.F.A WITH YOU AS BEFORE I HAD IT DONE I WAS SCARED OUT OF MY WITS,MAINLY DUE TO READING HORROR STORIES ON THE INTERNET.I HAD MY ABLATION DONE ON 18TH JANUARY,WHICH WAS 2WKS AGO.MY EPISUDES OF SVT WERE HAPPENING ALMOST EVERY 2WKS AND EACH TIME I WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AND INTO RESUSSITATION AND GIVEN A SHOT OF ADENOSYNE EACH TIME.I HAD NO SOCIAL LIFE,COULDNT DO ANY ACTIVITIES WITH MY DAUGHTER AND BECAME VERY VERY DEPRESSED.IT WAS TAKING OVER AND TOTALLY CONTROLLING MY LIFE.NO DRUGS FOR THE CONDITION SEEMED TO WORK FOR ME AND ALL THEY DID REALLY WAS MAKE ME EXTREMELY TIRED.I WAS CONFINED TO A LIFE ON THE SOFA,THE LAST ATTACK I HAD JUST BEFORE NEW YEAR WAS BROUGHT ON BY ME SIMPLY COUGHING!!I COULDNT TOLERATE IT ANYMORE AND BEGGED AND PLEADED FOR THE OPERATION.ID JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I REALISE EVERY PERSON IS DIFFERENT WITH THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES BUT READING SOME OF THE STORIES MADE ME MORE ANXIOUS THAN EVER AS ITS ALWAYS THE HORROR STORIES THAT STAND OUT AND STICK IN YOUR MIND!!AT THE LAST MINUTE AS THE PROFFESOR AND DOCTORS AND NURSES WERE READY FOR ME I STARTED TO BE SICK AND STARTED TO CRY.THEY REASSURED ME AND CALMED ME DOWN AND MET ALL THE NURSES ONE BY ONE WHO WERE GOING TO BE IN THE THEATRE WITH ME.THEY GUIDED ME INTO THE ROOM AND I LAY ON THE TABLE.I TRIED NOT TO LOOK AROUND TOO MUCH AS IT WOULD JUST HAVE MADE MY MIND RACE.THERE WERE THREE CATHETERS INSERTED INTO MY VEIN ON MY RIGHT LEG AROUND MY GROIN AREA,ID BEEN GIVEN SOME LIGHT SEDATION THROUGH THE VEIN ON MY RIGHT ARM SO I DIDNT FEEL ANYTHING AT ALL.I WAS REALLY SURPRISED AT THIS AS I WAS TERRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF BEING AWAKE THROUGHOUT THE PROCEDURE.I NEEDENT HAVE WORRIED AT ALL!!THE AREA OF INSERTION IS ALSO NUMBED.I DIDNT REALISE ID BEEN ON THE TABLE FOR AT LEAST 2HRS,IT SEEMED TO FLY IN!!I WAS ALSO TERRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF THEM STARTING OFF MY SVT TO TRY TO DETERMINE WHERE THE FAULT WAS.AGAIN,I NEEDENT HAVE WORRIED.THEY PROMPT IT EVERY MINUTE OR SO AND IT ONLY LASTS FOR A FEW SECONDS AT A TIME.IT LETS THEM KNOW WHERE TO GO SO THEY CAN ELIMINATE IT.AFTER ALL THAT I WAS LEFT FOR 15/20MINS BEFORE THEY TRIED TO PROMPT IT TO START AGAIN.AT THIS STAGE I WILL ADMIT TO FEELING A LITTLE JAGGY SENSATION BUT IT WASNT MUCH TO SHOUT ABOUT,IT WAS LIKE A LITTLE BIT OF INDEGESTION,THATS ALL!!THEY WERE SATISFIED THAT IT WOULDNT START AN EPISODE OF SVT AND THAT WAS THE PROCEDURE FINISHED.THEY SAID IT WAS SUCCESSFUL!!ALL I HAD TO WATCH FOR WAS MY LEG BLEEDING BUT THAT WAS ALL,I WAS ALLOWED HOME THAT EVENING.IM NOW WAITING FOR MY FOLLOWUP APPOINTMENT FOR A CHECKUP AT THE HOSPITAL THEN MY G.P SAYS ILL PROBABLY BE DISCHARGED.I CANT BELIEVE IT AS IVE ATTENDED THE CARDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT FOR YEARS!!IM HOPING TO GET MY LIFE BACK NOW AS IVE HAD SVT FOR MOST OF MY ADULTLIFE.IM NOW 36YRS OLD.AS I GOT OLDER IT GOT MORE FREQUENT THEN BECAME UNBEARABLE BEFORE THE OPERATION.THE PROFESSOR SAID THAT I WILL STILL GET THE ODD PALPITATION LIKE MOST PEOPLE BUT HES CONFIDENT IT HAS WORKED FOR ME.I HOPE SO AND IM GLAD THAT I DECIDED TO HAVE THE PROCEDURE.I HAD TO FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.TO ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING HAVING IT DONE I WOULD SAY TO THEM TO GO FOR IT,ITS NOT AS BAD OR FRIGHTENING AS YOU THINK IT WILL BE,ACTUALLY I WOULD SAY THE DENTIST IS WORSE!!MY OPERATION WAS DONE AT THE ROYAL INFIRMARY IN GLASGOW,SCOTLAND.MY DOCTOR IS PROFESSOR RANKIN,WARD66.HE MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT AFTER DEALING WITH A PATIENT LIKE ME!!

Hello,

Hopefully this represents a success.  It is possible that the ablation lesions were still in healing scar around the reentry circuit.  When we do our atrial fibrillation ablation cases, we instruct patients that it is possible to have atrial fibrillation in the first three months as this a time during which scar can heal.

Assuming that you tachycardia was caused by the most common SVT mechanism, reentry, the the likely mechanism is that your doctor injured your pathway enough to either cause long term scarring or to lengthen the recovery time enough to make further reentry unlikely.  Hopefully this represents a cure.  It is also possible that it is just much more difficult to induce and you will only have rare episodes.

Thanks for posting and happy holidays.
