Mitral Valve Replacement


This is regarding My mother who is aged 47  , needs a mitral Valve Replacement . she went through Baloon Valvatomy during her 40's and she had been on Blood thinners over a decade, Now she is not doing well and Dr's are suggesting her to go over MVR , i want to understand which Valve is better for her ,she already had been on blood thinners For more than a decade , considering this ,Could you please recommend . Thanks in advance , Please give your recommendation

There are some risks involved in long term use of anticoagulation medicine.
Of course there is the increased risk of bleeding.
Some studies have indicated that there might be an increased chance for osteoporosis (in men only?). Other complications are very rare.

She had been on Blood thinners from a decade , Is that ok  to continue 20-30 years more ?? wouldnt it weaken the body / legs , tending towards paralysis or something ?

She doesnt have any other complications , except she started showing diabetes since 18 months .
Please suggest

Hi,at your mother's age there are not so much options.
A biotissue valve lasts 10-15 years as a mechanical valve lasts a lifetime.

Replacing a valve is a major surgery that you do not want to repeat in 15 years or so. If your mother has no other life threatening diseases, she should normally live much more than 15 years from now.
Therefore the only logical option is the mechanical valve (including the blood thinners)
