My son is a healthy 22 yo in wonderful physical condition. He was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve years ago and has been followed closely by pediatric cardiologists. Recently he became symptomatic. Cardiologist did an echo (changes noted), stress test (he went 14 mins but had 41 ejection fraction) Heart elarged to 6.1 LV. Aortogram revealed 2 fused leaflets with severe regurgitation. Two surgeries recommended - St Jude aortic valve replacement or Ross procedure. My son is concerned about the longterm use of coumadin and is leaning toward the Ross procedure. I think the Ross procedure is a recipe for disaster in this case. The Drs. have said that they have really never seen anything like this -- very rare, extremely unusual. Please help with information on success of Ross procedure. Articles are all over the place on its failure and success rates.
