Benicar, PVC's

Dear Doctor, I am a healthy 36 year old male. In the last year I was put on Benicar 20 mg for high blood pressure. In that year I have began to notice PVC's that started occassionally and now are happening everyday all day. They drive me crazy. My blood pressure is under control and I exercise regularly. Could the Benicar cause the PVC's? I have had them checked out with my doctor and they tell me that they are okay and that they are PVC's. They drive insane. I went to the hospital 6 months ago and thought I was having a heart attack and they put me on Paxil 20mg. Could that have anything to do with the PVC's? I am really wanting them to stop.

You have symptomatic PVC that need to be treated with a medication called a beta blocker.  If that doesn't help you could have an ablation procedure where we target and burn the origin of the PVC.  The PVC's aren't typically a sign of a heart attack.  Benicar is not causing your PVC's.  They are probably related to you blood pressure and the effect that it has on your heart muscle.

Mike,

He just means you can feel them, Many people have them and never know its going on. The doctor is also right about the Benicar, I've been taking 40mg a day for a few years, never affected me.

Bottom line, if your echo is normal and your heart is normal structurally, these are normally not dangerous, but they sure can be annoying though!

Good luck,

Jon

is this symptomatic pvc that you are referring to a dangerous thing? The reason I ask is because my doctor tells me that they are benign. However, they happen so often, in fact I feel them happen sometimes several in a row. It really feels weird and doesn't seem normal to me. I just wonder if they are dangerous or something that I should be alarmed by.
