Calcified Plauque

My doc just told me I have 40% blockage in coanary artery consisting of calcified plauque. They are leaving it there, and treating with zocor and diet.this scares me, I thought they would open the blockage. I dont trust leaving the plauque there. Also I have a Heart ejection problem. meaning my heart doesnt pump enough bloodv out. It only pumps out 50%. Can anyone help put me at ease or explain this to me in more laymans terms.

Ed is right. I was diagnosed in September that I have a 30-40% blockage in my LAD. I also have mod. blocked OM 1. They did not do anything. They told me it was nothing when compared to his other clients. I was asked to modify my life style and enjoy. I was worried like you before. Take this as a wake up call. I did. I do not have any symptoms. I enjoy my life but take my heart health seriously. We were lucky to have an early warning. Think about the poor blokes who dont get a warning? We are the lucky ones. Control now you will have no trouble.

An ejection fraction of 50% is really not bad at all. And as fas as the 40% blockage, it is usually treated with  meds.  Unless it is over 70% blocked or causing other problems, it is normally left alone.  I think you will be fine.  Pay attention to your heart health now by making some changes in your diet, exercise at your own pace, there are some supplements you might want to research, and by all means, always discuss any concerns with your doctor.  Ed and I can tell you from experience, there is always hope with change. Take care and calm down.  Take charge now and you will do well.  Ally

A 40% blockage isn't as big as it sounds. You have to remember that all arteries are bigger than they need to be to give a reserve. You say your heart has a 50% ejection fraction and this is a problem, but why?  Have you just seen this figure and assumed it is a problem? or has a cardiologist given you wrong information? 50-70% is perfectly normal. No human being has a heart which comes close to pumping out 100% of the blood in the lower chambers. It wouldn't work properly if it did because it would simply take too long to fill up between cycles. Your heart is fine.
