Calcium in the hart

My father had a ct scan of the heart today and was told that calcium deposits were found.  He also was told that his kidneys are not functioning properly so a previous scheduled angiogram was not performed.  What causes the calcium deposits and how serious of an illness is this for him? He is 65 yrs old and never asks questions.

I am an Australian currently working in Indonesia. I am 62 and quite healthy. I am a type 2 diabetic and smoke. Recently while I was driving in Jakarta and saw a banner promoting heart CT scan. I took this chance and did the scan. I was told by the local doctor my calcium score was 252. She wanted me to see a Cardiologist as soon as possible. The next day I did see the local Cardiologist. He did a normal stress test ( without ECHO) and said I was OK and requested me to take a baby Asprin daily. I went to Australia last week and saw another Cardiologist for a seconed opinion. He told me that my stress test that was done in Indonesia was abnormal. He wanted me to do an echo stress test on the same day. I did and he said it was not good and requested me to do an Angiogram on the following morning. I did and it was finishied within 15 mins. Almost 2 hours later I was told to go home. My cardiologist said I have a blockage on a small branch and just a very mild deasease on the arteries. I was given permision to return to Australia.
They did not give me any medication. I have been taking Lipitor for a long time but my lipids always good. They gave me Lipitor as a precaution because I am a diabetic.
What should I do now? Return back to normal life? Was my calcium score really high?

I think his kidney issue is probably more important right now , as long as he is not having severe chest pain. I have a ton of calcium in my heart right now and am functioning ok and I am 20 years younger then your dad. A lot of people are walking around right now with calcium in their coronary arterys ( and they have no clue its there unless they get a test like this one your father had ) , I guess it all depends how much is there and is it blocking blood flow to his heart. Good luck to your dad.
