Hi there,
MVP (mitral valve prolapse) is very common and a benign disease, as long as you have annual echo's done and grading smaller than 2. Cardio's use grades 0-6. 5/6 being severe incompetence.
Do you know what the grading of your leak is? When was your last Echo done? do you have high risk factors for coronary artery disease?
Chest pains are indeed a symptom from MVP, due to the abnormal blood flow, but nothing serious. If you do however get shorness of breath on minimal excertion, that is a warning sign, or if you get chest pains when physically active. That can indicate something more serious and should get checked out.
Chest pain is a symptom of MVP and can be pronounced. If you are having chest pain that radiates to your back, you should get checked out to be safe.
Don't take the chance it could be more serious.
Jon
