Can A Fib mess up Heart Rate Monitors when Exercising ?

I took an agility test - the nurse told me I was in afib at the time and i failed the heart rate testing.  It went too high on my 3rd task.  I am a very fit 49 year old so that is why i ask.

Can heart rate monitors work on people when in afib?  Or will ur heart rate be too rapid upon the start of exercise?

Thank you in advance,
Jim

I also work out using a Polar device.  I have found them to be quite accurate, but they tend to take a bit of time to center in when an irregular heartbeat is detected.  The Polar won't be able to tell if it is afib or vfib, it isn't programmed that way.  The fact that you have an irregular heartbeat in my opinion should be investigated.

I use a polar heart rate monitor when riding my bicycle.  When I go into afib, it does show the rapid heart rate.  Mine has been between 130 to 170 beats per minute and everything in between.  The personal heart rate monitors are not made to read afib, but it does reflect the rapid pace and shows that it is irregular.  I would think the nurse is using better equipment.  I hope this answers your question.
