Can High blood pressure cause chest pain

My blood pressure has been running high. 140/100. Also found out I had high sugar a few months ago. I started diet and walking, have lost 20lbs. My sugar is down to a 14 day average of 109. I take one 500mg of metformin.
A few days ago I started having chest pain. Not alot of pain. It wasnt bad, mostly a slight pressure. Then I went for a walk, Started having more pain and a tingle in my left arm, below the elbow. So, I went to the ER
My ekg was a high normal, bp was 160/115. cardiac enzymes were elevated (but not the important one). They returned to normal on the 3rd 6 hour test. They gave me oxygen. nitroglycerin and a bp pill. I started to fill better after the nitro.
What I want to know is, can the bp have caused the problem? I have had the symptoms again, but not as bad. How dangerous is the problem? is the pain normal?
My appointment with the cardiologist is a few weeks away. I just want to be safe till then.

It sounds more like you have another issue that might be causing your bp to elevate.  Your cardiac enzymes shouldn't be elevated either (even the not important one?).  I'd push up your appt with the cardiologist.  If they give you a hard time tell them you have been having symptoms.  It sounds like you need a stress test or a CTA. Don't wait, it's not worth it.

Usually when the BP is severely elevated like over 200 syst. do "some" people get chest pain.  A friend of mine had a BP of 240/160 and chest pain, a co-worker of my husband was rushed to the Er with a BP of 250/140 and he had chest pains.  Both had tests done, my friend had an angiogram done, and neither one of them have heart problems.

I was rushed to the ER one time with a BP of 255/130 and I had no chest pain, no dizziness, no headache, not even a fast heart rate, but SEVERE anxiety.  I also had all the tests under the sun, and my heart is o.k.

Chest pain can have many causes besides the heart.
