Chest pain/Troubled breathing?

About a month ago I had an EKG done saying that my heart rate was a little low, I'm 18 5'10 and 116lbs.  I'm underweight but currently on a weight gain diet, and have just recently made major changes to my eating habits.  Until yesterday I've felt fine, but started having chest pains and breathing seems a little more difficult than usual.  It's gone off and on since yesterday.  Should I be concerned? Could this also be from eating a lot?

If your heart has been checked out, you are fine.  Doctors actually do learn a lot of stuff about the heart, and with a simple EKG, they can usually spot bad things a mile away.  They have no reason to try to fool you about this.

The important thing, if you've been battling anorexia, is NOT to start finding reasons to cut back on food.

If you are truly worried about your heart, go back to your doc and tell him/her about it. Ask those questions of the person who has your medical records.

Hi achillia,
I am recovering from anorexia which I should have probably mentioned earlier.  My heart has been checked out with an ekg, but it was about a month ago and the only thing they found was that it was a little on the low side.  I have lately been eating a lot more than usual, but I'm afraid that I could be having heart attack symtoms instead of something else.

Chest pains in a young woman your age have a vanishingly small chance of being heart-related--that is, unless your underweight status is related to an eating disorder like bulimia, which can and does cause heart damage.

But if you are on a doctor-supervised weight gain diet, I would assume your heart has already been checked out.

Breathing difficulty in a person your age is usually related to allergy or things like colds.  If it persists more than a couple of weeks, talk to your GP.

In answer to your other question about whether or not your chest discomfort is related to eating 'a lot':   A medically-indicated weight gain diet will not make you eat a lot.  It will provide just enough calories to get back to a near-normal weight for your height.  If you've been trying aggressively for some time to keep your weight down, a normal diet may seem like ' lot,' but it really isn't.

Chest pains are often not heart related. At your age with an ok ekg it is very unlikely that it is heart related. I could be the flu or and effect from exercising or perhaps your body is still adapting to your changed eating pattern.
If your pains persists for more days or if they worsen, see you doctor.
