Cholesterol Levels

62 year old female -- I just had my six month blood test because I take a statin and of course they check to see if liver function is ok.  My total cholesterol was 151; HDL was 76; LDL was 62; triglycerides were 64. She said my albumin was 4.8...I don't know the function of albumin other than it has something to do with the liver. She said this was a little high.  My first question is regarding the HDL and LDL levels...is 76 too high for HDL? Should HDL number be higher than LDL? Also l would like to know a little more about albumin (what it is and average levels). Glucose was 95.  Thanks in advance for whatever help you may give me. Greatly appreciated!

preferred values are :
total below 200
ldl below 100 is ideal; below 70 for people at high risk for heart disease
hdl above 60 is ideal
trigl below 150
so your values are very good.

Serum albumin is produced by the liver, occurs dissolved in blood plasma and is the most abundant blood protein in mammals. Albumin is essential for maintaining the oncotic pressure needed for proper distribution of body fluids between blood vessels and body tissues. The reference range for albumin concentrations in serum is approximately 3.5 - 5.0 g/dl

So, also for albumin you are within normal range.

Thanks for the reply.  I read on the internet that high albumin levels are a sign of congestive heart failure. That is scary.

Your liver enzymes should be listed on your report as ALT and AST. If those are normal you are doing great! (I'm guessing they are)
