mr and dental profylaxis

PLS ANSWER ME

pls pls answer me this question

i was diagnosed 10 yrs ago with mild mvp with trivial m/r 1/4.

last year in my echo the cardiologist didn't even mention it.he didn't say if i have any
could it have disappeared ?

anyway noone told me i would need antibiotics before dental work.
2 days ago i had my teeth cleaned and doctor prescribed vibromycin 100 for 4 days due to bleeding
i had diarrhea though and difficulty swallowing so he stopped me ,

pls tell me am i heading for endocarditis ?

i'm making myself crazy over this. i suffer from anxiety and this worry makes me worse.

Hi Tonia,

I agree with Dawn that I don't think you should worry about endocarditis.  For many years, the American Heart Assn. and the American College of Cardiology recommended prophylactic antibiotics. However, in 2007, they revised the guidelines and people in your situation (mild MVP, trivial regurgitation) are no longer advised to take antibiotics prior to dental treatments.  I don't know the guidelines where you live, but I believe the revisions apply worldwide.  You may want to share this with your doctor:

i would not worry if i were you...  there has been some question of late about giving antibiotics before procedures in cases such as yours.   almost everyone has some amount of regurgitation in the valves and if your cardiologist didn't mention it was probably because the amount of leakage has not increased     it is highly unlikely that you are at risk for endocarditis, and i certainly hopes this helps        dawn
