Conjestive Heart failure after Bypass

Five days ago my father in law had a quadruple bypass . Today he was diagnosed with " Congestive Heart Failure " Is this normal after a bypass surgery ?  If it is common , does it usually get better . I don't really understand the severity of this condition . Any help would be appreciated .

Thanks for your reply . After all the test came back , they concluded that it is not congestive heart  failure . He has an infection , an air pocket on his lounge and his blood pressure medicine needs to be readjusted .

Congested heart failure  occurs when the heart is not pumping out into circulation in balance with what it receives from the lungs.  The blood backs up into the lungs and fluids leak into lung tissues causing congestion.

The loss of pumping power is usually due to heart muscle damage or a dilated left ventricle that impairs contractions, etc.  May get better with medication to reduce the heart's workload giving it time to recover from the stress and strain. CABG should not be an underlying cause for CHF...physical condition prior to CABG may be the determing factor.  Sometimes there is a loss of memory for a short period of time that may be contributed to putting the system on a mechanical heart pump.
