Diastolic BP

This is a wonderful forum for people like me with anxiety.  I know people cannot be diagnosed on here but the advice sure helps. I have lost almost 80 lbs. this year and have been walking for 25-30 min each day (rain or shine) for the past eight months.  I had a left sided endarterectomy in 02/2011 and changed my lifestyle completely.. Diet includes fruits and veggies and little or no meat and plenty of fiber. My BP has fallen down some ...I guess it is due to the weight loss and excercise.  But it some time gets to 90-115 (systolic) and 50-60 (diastolic)..even with the new 25 mg pills..I have been taking metoprolol for over ten years...used to have fast heartbeat...on the 25 mg it gets up to 75 sometimes ...was used to it being 58-65 on the 50 mg dose.  Are these diastolic numbers too low? I have read that your body does not receive the oxygen saturation it needs when diastolic falls this low.  (I also take 25mg hydrochlorothiazide each day) and have been trying to stay hydrated.  I am scared these numbers (diastolic) are too low..  Note: When I was put on metoprolol at first, and bascally all the time, my diastolic never went over about 85 even before I started the medication so it has never really been high..just the systolic and fast heartrate.)   Thank you for this wonderful forum and to those who have taken their time to address my questions (especially ed34). Thought after I started taking smaller dose and keeping hydrated it would go up...hasn't yet.

Thanks erjon ... that makes me feel a lot better.  Never thought I would see my bp fall like that...Oh yes when she changed my bp meds they also did bloodwork.  My cholesterol was 150, HDL was 54, Trigs were 85 and my glucose was 90.  She always does the regular CRP (not the Hs-CRP). . . mine was 0.04.  So I guess I am doing ok...liver and kidney function were fine.  At first I thought the kidneys might have something to do with the bp #'s but nope. * am such an anxious person..I really appreciate your response.  Means a lot.

Lucy,

your BP is fine, I think most would be happy with a BP that ranges from 90-115/50-60, that's really not a problem.Your readings in the 50s are only a problem if you have symptoms like being lightheaded or dizzy. The lower the better. If you look at my tracker, I will often drop into the 50s and my doctor is fine with it. Like you, I have lost a considerable amount of weight with diet and exercise and as a result my numbers are down. You really don't want you number in the 80s or higher, you're doing fine!
