EKG

just went to the doctors for my one year physical. They did an ekg and now she wants me to see a cardiovascular doctor. Was told that the ekg changed some from last year, but not to worry. Since I saw her last year she has put me on blood pressure medicine. now I have to have a stress test and an echocardiogram. Should I be freaking out. Because she has really scared me. I am only 42 and am in good health.

Don't worry. You are being proactive with your health and you have a doctor that is checking behind you to keep you healthy. A visit with a cardiologist for stress test and echo is the next appropriate step in your evaluation. If your doctor had seen something very wrong on an ekg, she would have sent you immediately for these tests. As all news reports, doctors and this site tells you, women CAN present differently then men with cardiac signs so I'm happy to hear that you have an excellent primary care doctor. Remain calm.Joan,

EKG's are poorly specific and your doctor just wants to be certain that there is nothing wrong.  I would not worry about this too much especially that you are healthy and have no symptoms.
