Ringing ears can be an indication of high blood pressure and certainly from personal experience, an increase in beta blocker drugs as well as nitrates. As Ireneo suggests, tinnitus is explained in different ways.
I have really sensitive ears and they ring whistle tuck hiss you name my ears make sometimes like when the bombs go off in the movies were you canonly hear the ringing. I think to an extent in very quite situations every one has it if they really pay attention. I don't no if mines do to ms but I have that to. I know that even the earth runs on a frequency but who knows really what causes what. Anxiety and hyperventilation makes mine really bad along with no sleep and alcohol.
Thanks for that, now I know what people mean :)
There is a safety mechanism with hearing. If you are exposed to a lot of loud noise, the ear basically shuts down to protect it as much as possible. During this phase you can hear 'ringing' and I'm wondering if with some people the mechanism is malfunctioning.
People have different ways of describing tinnitus. Some hear humming, ringing, roaring. I hear a high pitched tone in my ear most of the time and occasionally hear a tick-tick-tick like a wristwatch (the old fashioned kind that we had to wind up). Annoying and it interferes with my hearing. I haven't had it checked out.
As I put in another post, I have no idea what 'ringing' is? I am 52 and have never heard ringing in my ears. I have obviously had many instances of a low whistle, which is normal.
