Hi, I'm new and hoping to get some insight into why I'm having some BP issues while my doctor is on vacation (next 2 weeks) .
A little back ground. I'm 58. Have very little stress (new puppy LOL), overweight but exercise 5 x's week, & have always had very good BP (typical 111/73 type). Family history of very high cholesterol. About 6 months ago mine went from 240 to 290 (tried diff. meds, none work). I drink about 8 oz of red wine daily from late afternoon until bedtime & try to drink 32 or more oz. water each day.
Ok, so, over the last month I'll be feeling great & suddenly get extremely light-headed. This has happened about 6 times lasting 1-2 days. Last week I got a serious nosebleed (1st & only one in 5+ years), it just started running - no dryness, cleaning, sinus etc. I couldn't stop it for almost 1 hour. It was then my husband mentioned BP. So I started monitoring & I'm getting huge fluctuations running like 167/103 then 1 hour later it's 92/61. Several times diastolic has been higher like 115/127 followed by something like 111/76 or 149/98. These can all be within the course of 1/2 a day. Very erratic.
I saw my doctor 3 days ago. He has been treating me since Feb. for a pain in my kidney that radiates under the hip into the groin area (ultrasound showed no stones). He now believes the pain could be from a herniated disk. The BP fluctuation- 150/99 at exam (1/2 hr earlier my home monitor showed 149/99 so it's pretty accurate) anyway, the fluctuation has my MD puzzled. He did an EKG-(good) and a Glucose-110 (after eating). I don't know what they're for but now he's ordered these tests...
Comp Metabolic Panel w/eGFR -
a UA Compete Reflex to Culture-
a Uric Acid -
Serum and Urine Osmolality and
a 24 hour Urine for UMA & Metanephrine test.
Dr. said while he's gone if the BP goes above 160 to go to urgent care. It's done that twice now but before I can get ready it's back down to normal so I haven't gone. Urgent Care would think I'm nuts if I go in with normal BP, LOL.
These weird jumps has me feeling bad. Does Anyone have a clue what's going on?
