H/R and recovery after exercise

I have bradycardia, no symtoms along with it.

I started exercising by walking, building up to 1 1/2 -2 miles per day.

We recently got a treadmill and I am looking for what my heart rate should be and what the recovery rate and time is. I did a search on the internet and find conflicting reports. I read your h/r should return to normal in 2 minuets, another should drop a significant amount in 1 minuets but than 2 beats per minuet for time you have exercised. as 15 minuets of exercise, 2 beats per minuet for  15 minuets.

I am 70 years old, heart rate average 55, borderline  high b/p, on  meds for that.

I was on the treadmill last night, my h/r was 124, within a minuet it was 90 and 5 minuets later was 74, it did not get down into the 50's for about 20 minuets. Is this normal or am I over stressing myself. I exercised for 17 minuets.

Thanks, Line

I am 75 and male, but my h/r averages about 55 - same as yours. About 20 min. after walking (I manage about 2.5 miles in 40 min) my h/r is ~88-90 and will not drop down to below 60 for at least another 30-40 min.

So you walked for 17 mins on the treadmill and your heart rate gets to 124?
Then within 1 min it drops to around 90?
and then 20 mins (approx) later, it drops to resting rate?

This sounds perfectly normal to me. I'm 50 and when I exercise I can my rate to around 140.
When I stop it drops to 90 in around 30 seconds and then about 20-30 mins later is goes to 65.
If I go running, 3-5 miles, and sprint the last leg, I get my rate to around 175-180. When I stop it takes about 2 mins to drop to 90, then 30 mins to drop to 65.
Unless you stop exercising and lay on a bed and go into meditation, I think most hearts drop in 2 stages, around 90 first and then down to rest rate. You may not be burning energy with your muscles when you stop, but you have a lot of toxic wastes to clear out of them or you will end up with bad cramps. So I think 90 for a short while would be beneficial.

forgot to say the 90 h/r  was immediately after stopping exercising.
