sky, in my opinion, needs for you to understand and believe.
I was diagnosed with a heart murmur as a youngster. I still have it at age 74. I have a lot of heart trouble unrelated to the murmur, but that is a separate issue. I played football, was a AAU boxer and wrestled. Sometimes, the murmur needs fixing, but it is now days a very safe procedure. I'd just listen to your doctors. You will be just fine.
No, it's not bad news. It's good news that this was found and that you can get it checked out. A lot of people have heart murmurs that are considered "benign;" in other words the heart murmur doesn't mean anything and won't hurt the person. The reason for you to see a cardiologist is to make sure that's all it is. Probably you will go once and not need to go back. If it does turn out to be more than that, it's still good for you to go and get the information about it, so you know how to take care of yourself. There are some people who have to visit a cardiologist once a year, just for the doctor to listen to their murmur and make sure nothing has changed. That's still good. The chances that your murmur will require any actual treatment are low, and even if it does, it's still a good thing to find out about it and get the treatment you need. So, really, it's all good. Do let us know what you find out.
