You really only need to drop your LDL by 20 points, which is not very much. Do a low fat diet, not empty carbs like breads, sugars and pastas. Add fruits and veggies as well. The easiest way is to cut out fast foods so if you indulge in burgers and fries, stop and that alone will bring your number down.

Is there a reason why you don't want to take a statin? Also, you should never start a supplement without consulting your doctor first as even supplements can have side effects and interact with other meds. Ever since flaxseed oil hit the nutritional supplement market in the mid-80s, it's been promoted as a cure-all for dozens of diseases and conditions. But, for the most part, those “health claims” are unsubstantiated and, at best, shaky. Plus, there are serious side effects of flax seed oil. For example, Some researchers believe flaxseed may affect blood clotting factors. This can be particularly worrisome for individuals who are taking blood thinning medications such as Coumadin, Heparin or even aspirin. If you wish to take flaxseed oil, and you're taking these types of medications, you should first consult with your doctor.

Hope this helps,

Jon
