How Long for memory loss to reverse?

My otherwise healthy 48 year old husband had mitral valve repair two months ago.  One of the side effects we weren't prepared for was his post op memory loss (mostly short term memory).  This site helped us realize this was a common result of surgery and medications...but I'd love to know how long it takes to return to "normal", and if there's anything he can do/take to speed the process up.  Thanks!

I have read up to 6 months for some individuals if there is a loss.  Some older individuals may never completely recover.
