How do I know when skipped heart beats are dangerous?

Over a week ago for absolutely no identifiable reason my heart started skipping way more beats than usual.  I can go hours with none and then have several hours where I'll have 2 or 3 a minute.  It's setting me over the edge.  I don't know if it's dangerous or not.  I went to the ER the other day and they basically didn't care at all and just had me take Ativan and sent me home.  Today I panicked and called the paramedics who came and did a 12 lead and they said normal sinus with one ectopic and so I didn't go back to the ER.  I had a normal echo 3 years ago.  I already don't eat caffeine or sugar.

Please reassure or sympathize with me.  I'm going insane and have no idea what's causing this out of the blue.  Why would they suddenly increase for no reason whatsoever?

I  am a 23 yo female. I've been dx with frequent pvcs (couplets) and pacs. They started after the birth of my first son for no apparent reason other then I suffer from anxiety. A year ago I experienced a horrific event. I was laying down the day after drinking and was feeling my usual pvcs when suddenly they wouldn't stop. It was about 20-30 mins of my heart beating all over the place. I thought maybe it was back to back pvcs which is sort of what it felt like in my pulse and pulse was not racing.I rushed to the ER where a nurse felt my pulse and confirmed feeling an abnormality. I then got hooked to a monitor where I asked a different nurse if she could see the pvcs and she said "well I don't see any pvcs, it looks like your heart is beating irregular." I then calmed down and the feeling went away shortly after. The Dr who came in and saw me said they caught nothing on the monitor. All blood test were neg. Troponin, electrolytes, ECT. All normal aside from low TSH (slightly hyperactive thyroid but endocrine not worried or wanting to treat it.) I then had episodes of this happening twice a day for about a week. I had a holter which should have caught it but at some point just conveniently stopped recording. The Dr said he didn't see afib or the holter but that it looked like a short episode of SVT (but like I said, my pulse didn't feel fast, just irregular and forceful). My chart now says no svt seen on that holter...? Now my pvcs are back and I live in constant fear that this was a deadly arythmia I was experiencing and that it will come back while I'm alone with my children or driving. Please help if you have any idea what this could be. Also the pvcs I now get do not feel like a thud like they once did. They now feel like a pause or pressure on my chest and no thud (where it feels like there should be a compensating "thud"). I should not ive had a normal echo and i am 4 weeks pp. These were gone my entire pregnancy and are just now coming back

I wish I could offer more than just advice, but I can't. I stared getting these after a flu or cold back in Aug and lasted over 4 months.  I still get the random 1 or 2 a week but it's far less ran what they used to be. I used find it hard to believe the docs that it was stress but how can i deny them after an echo,  stress test, 2 Hooters, brain mri, methacoline challenge,  edg, and many blood samples. Pvcs a bc pace were the only thing I had and only around 15 a day. That is absolutely normal but I am now sensitive to them sure to stress according to my cardiologist. I have been seeing a psychologists which seems to have been calming me down and really just learning to deal with them.  It's been a very difficult time since, but I am just now starting to feel like my old self again. Keep talking your doctor and ask for testing if you think you need it. And remember that you are not alone.  There are many people just like you if not worse with this odd thump sensation.
I’ve felt almost exactly what you have described today way a terrible day for my pvcs had 6 or 7 in a row something I’ve never had before it’s dunny because yesterday was a great day with maybe only a couple the whole day  and thought what would suck if I got a bunch in a row because it would make my anxiety even worse , well 12 hours later I got them in a row . I was thinking about going to the ER but called my cardiologist instead and he said just to relax it’s normal and to take the beta blockers he had prescribed. These things have completely taken over my life at the moment constant fear of cardiac arrest and even afraid to go to bed . How can something that’s normal feel so abnormal ! You are not alone with this there are a lot of us in the same boat :(
Dr's will never address diet. Their job is to push pills. I had irregular heartbeat for as long as I can remember. After all these years I had an A-Fib attack last year. My Dr put me on aspirin and metropolol. It made me tired and calm, but I did not want to take it. I did some research and made some changes. I started taking Magnesium Taurate. It has a calming effect, so I take it at night before bed. I eat a banana EVERY day(potassium). I also found "the people's chemist" and started taking his Cardio-FX. It has clot busters, which is really what I was concerned about. Now, I stopped the metropolol and stopped the aspirin, and haven't had a problem since. Check out his website because you will learn a lot about the dangers of long term use of these killer medications.. I can't believe how much your diet affects how your body works, and how what you don't eat can have terrible effects..Please do your research!

Hi, for the past few days I have been experiencing the same issue. It’s like a my heart is having a hiccup. I am not sure what triggers it or why it’s doing so but I would randomly experience my heart skipping a beat every now and then or atleast it feels like it’s skipping a beat. Last night I went to watch a movie and when the volume would get loud due to some action scene my heart would start racing and the skipping beats would start. By the time I came out of the theatre my heart was beating really fast. I felt like I couldn’t breathe and I had a really bad headache . I am not sure if I should go to the doctor or ignore it

You'll never know until a professional checks it out. Sounds like you may be having anxiety attacks.  I have seen pulmonogists, cardiologists,  and ENTs. Had echo, stress tests,  ekg, holter, endoscopy, and brain mri. all normal. Only thing found was low wbc count and platelets.  That went back to normal in One month. Originally, I had the flu when I began noticing the thump.  I freaked out as let my mind run with it after reading into potential causes.  I couldn't accept stress and anxiety as the cause initially,  but after all the tests ran,  who am I to say otherwise. Every specialist I saw,  told me anxiety could be the cause.  Stress can cause real damage so please, get yourself checked out and try to relax.  Avoid caffeine,  get good sleep,  and exercise. you're not alone.Hope all is getting better for you.

Hello, I began getting these August 2017 for no real reason.  I first noticed them after a i got either a cold or sone really bad allergies. Out of nowhere,  i began to feel a single and random thump or thud in the center of my chest. It was almost like an extra beat or a missed one.  It's hard to but it's how it felt. Out was odd because i only felt them at rest and not during exercise.
I saw my doc which immediately said they were benign ectopic beats or PVCs caused by anxiety. He referred me to a cardiologists  just to make sure.
Sure enough, the cardiologists found only 60 pvcs and 34 pacs in a 48 hr holter monitor.  They said even though that was happening, sinus rhythm was normal and they had no reason to be concerned.  Of course,  i felt differently; I needed more than that because i was losing my mind.  I could not stop checking my pulse,  blood pressure,  and researching for a diagnoses.  I requested an echo and stress test to which they gladly agreed to.  They Even ram a 7 day monitor because I gent more on done days than others. All came back within tolerance. They only caught PVCs and PACs again to which they saod they weren't even close to being anything to worry about.  They said my magnesium was a little low but not severely, and recommended i take a 300mg tab per day. My doctor gave me xanax to take as needed and asked if i wanted to get on anti depressants. I only accepted the xanax because I literally thought i was dying. I am 28, very active lifestyle,  and have 2 young children to support. It was crushing me to think I was leaving them so young.
This lasted 4 months before they suddenly stopped occurring. Im still following up for random lightheadedness but that's about it.  No more ectopic beats for now.
I kept this forum open on seperate page in my phone browser to help calm me down at times. We are all different and some of you may have something serious going on.  My advice,  calm your nerves by keeping your mind busy. Second,  Listen to the doctors advice, but follow up as frequently as you need to.  Lastly,  don't be scared to request certain test if you think it'll help give you spne piece of mind.  I pray every night now and will keep you all in my prayers.
