Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your son. Unfortunately I am not a pediatric cardiologist and haven't taken care of someone his age for almost 10 years.
You are right that WPW is relatively straight forward--if you have symptomatic arrhythmias, you ablate it. The ablation is relatively simple in adults.
Thickened venticles are more complicated. I don't feel comfortable commenting on this. The genetic testing is not fool-proof. Last I heard we can only detect about 75% of the causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy--this is a developing field.
We have a cardiologist that specializes in adult hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but I am sure he does not see children your son's age.
Sorry I am not more helpful, but this is not my field.
Good luck and best wishes.
Forgot to mention in my posting that my son has been placed on 5mg propranolol 3X a day. Thank you.
I am so sorry to hear of your problems with your little one. There is a website you can visit with a message board for pediatric cardiac issues, maybe you can get some support there - it's www.heartcenteronline.com Take care, Susan
Sorry to hear about your baby's diagnosis. Hopefully, you will be able to get the information you are looking for. Are you in the Cleveland area? There are a number of wonderful ped cardiologists at the CCF. And, I know a fabulous ped cardiologist (my daughter went to him for years) at another major hospital in Cleveland. I had a friend of my phone his office once just to ask a question about her son...He called her back (more than once)!!! Good luck and congratulations on your new baby :)
