Just had a By pass surgery

I thought I might share own experience with intrested people and probably be useful. I just had By pass on 6/9. Feeling ok at home after one wk at hospital. Had one by pass fo 100% blocked LAD onother for LIMA. and had a LIGATION of fistula off my LAD. My situation was diagnosed in March and since then going to many doctors to make a decision between stenting and surgery. I hope I made the right decision.

I have no idea obviously what lifestyle changes you have made, but the key risk factors seem to be.....smoking, healthy diet, regular exercise, Cholesterol and blood pressure monitoring and stress avoidance. With the last one (stress) it's important to look at this in depth. Most of us have lived with stress for so long that we no longer recognise that we are stressed.

"You obviously need to make lifestyle changes to get the most out of your bypass"

What lifestyle changes you refer to I might be missing. I appreciate you mention them. Thanks

The coughing will go away, and the pain in your chest will last a few months I'm afraid. You obviously need to make lifestyle changes to get the most out of your bypass, but my personal opinion is that you made a good choice. There is still the stenting option should you require it at any time in the future.

1. The symtoms I had were chest pain in middle of chest , I had this situation during last November. Receded quikly and then stopped. I use to feel tired on moderate exertion.
2. The first real test I had was Heart Catheterization at the hospital on 20 March. Which revealed 100% occluded LAD, 90% Narrowing of RCA., 70 % some where off my LAD. Also I had what they call artery Fitsula stealing blood from the heart to lung vessels.

3. As to whether it was my decision. Well, for the last three months, I have visited approx. 10 doctors . Their opinions were divided as follows: 2 for medication since they say I have developed new vessels and my Heart 60%. 3 for two stage stenting of my lad and then ligation of my Fitsula, and 5 were for by pass surgery. I tried my best to avoid the surgery but then I was self determined after all consultations, self research and meeting with other patients.

4. Doctors used LIMA off the chest to LAD. They also used two 3" vessel off my left upper thigh. and One 2" vessel ( not sure why but suspect it for ligation of fitsula)

4. I hope I made the right decision. Iam doing OK except for some coughing and subsequent pain in the chest.

May I ask if you made the decision of the bypass surgery, or did the Doctors?
I wonder if it was your choice, what made you choose bypass. For what it's worth, I think you made a good choice especially as they used your Lima vessel. This should last the rest of your natural life. Thank you for sharing.
