Left ventricular hypertrophy

Hi, I'm 25 soon to be 26 yrs of age, and I have a heart condition that's mild-moderate LVH. Thickness was 1.5mm. I also have hypertension which I'm on 4 meds to try and keep it under control. My bp usually runs 130's-140's/70 which my doctor wants it to be 130's or lower. I have occasional spikes where it will be week(s) of high numbers like 150's-160's/70's(dyslstolics always normal)...I'm wondering is it normal for someone who is hypertensive and on medication to have spikes like this? Or are my spikes related to lvh? It's like I can feel my bp is high the way my body feels when I have these spikes. I work out and lift weight (for years) so I need to get my bp in line...and every time I tell the Doc he just prescribes me another med instantly....pls help

You've been asking this same question for 3 years now, have your numbers changed at all or do you know? Is it still 1.5 mm as it was in 2014 or has it changed?

Hi there. Im not a doctor but will try help.
The LVH is likely being caused or at least contributed to by the Hypertension. So the BP needs to be sorted.

There are a few questions;

have you had a 24 Hr ABPM test?

What are your BP numbers like at night?

Have you considered secondary causes for the high BP?
I ask because if you already take 3+ Meds for it and its not effective, secondary issues should be looked at.
Its resistant Hypertension if 3+ meds are in effective.

The 24 hour test would give a full daily BP pattern , including showing if you have Nocturnal Hypertension (Ideally your BP should drop at night, but some people have a reverse DIP, which means their BP rises at night.

BP experts dont like this pattern and it can sometimes be indicitive of a secondary cause for Hypertension.

Find a BP expert and get a second opinion. There is a worldwide group of specialist BP docs in a society. Its called the European Hypertension society (There may be a US group also)

These docs have extra knowledge on BP issues and causes.

Over the last few years studies at Cambridge university have shown that resistant Hypertension is caused by Aldosterone issues in up to 15% of cases, which is much higher than previously thought.

As a result often they prescribe a medication called Spiro,
that can have dramatic effects on BP. Plus they screen you for the Adrenal gland problem I mentioned.
One of them is called Conns Syndrome

Hope this helps some bit
