Hi Momto,
Thanks for your valuable suggestion and tips. I will log in my son's issue and ask for their opinion.
Currently, my son had admitted to the national heart centre in Malaysia.
The surgeon said to observe for his current situation, before decide for the re-repairing the mitral valve leak for the 2nd time. I still waiting for the result of the physical observation report such as echo result and so on.
But anyway, I will ask for the chance in % for successful ops, if the success rate is very mild than might as well ask for doing this in later stage (abt 3 yrs old).
Hi chinfk,
You're right about the fee for the Cleveland Clinic on line second opinion. Try posting your question to the doctor on this forum. The like to "Ask a doctor" a question is to the above left. The best time to try would be around 7:00 - 9:30 a.m. New York time. So, try posting around 8:00 - 10:30 pm tomorrow night (your time). Be sure you have all of your questions included in your post. The doctors generally accept 2 questions per day. Ask the online doctor (if you get through) where you can send your child's test results, etc.
You can also try calling the Cleveland Clinic Cardiac Unit to ask for any information on getting a second opinion for an oversees case.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks for your kind concern. The surgeon said that the ASD has patch up successfully but the mitral valve still had moderately leak.
At the moment, some medicine had been given here as the anti-failure threatment. The surgeon said the repair will be done when he is grow to abt 3 yrs old, but if the current situation running worst then the replament ops will be carried out to solve this problem.
But I had concern coz it need to carried every 5 yrs it this replacement ops take place as the heart grow from time to time, the replacement repeatly runs every 5 years. So this would be very tortured and suffering.
I has write in to Cleveland electronically concerned on this issue. But somehow that is very costly abt USD 600 for the second opinion. That is the reason I log in my some issue at this forum.
But anyhow I have a copy of report on after his ASD patch up operation. I just wonder who can I send here, to get some commend on this report as this involved many medical terms.
Do anyone know where shall i send this report for advice or explanation on that ?
I am so sorry to hear about your son's heart problem. Normally a Mitral valve does not need replacement, unless it is leaking severely. Did the Cardio tell you that they need to replace his valve?
Hi Peter,
You may want to have your child's records sent (electronically) to the Cleveland Clinic. In the U.S., they are considered the best at heart valve repair surgery. You can also contact Mayo Clinic, as they are also specialists in this area.
