PFO and ASA diagnosed on Echo

Hi, I am a 31-year-old female who recently had an ECHO done with saline. Results showed an Inter Atrial Septal Aneurysm (ASA) with PFO and right to left shunting during cough and the valsalva maneuver. My doctor felt I should take a low-dose aspirin but otherwise should not be concerned. I am seeing a second opinion soon. I'm still concerned as it puts me at higher risk for stroke. My mother, as the age of 43, had a stroke of unknown cause that caused many issues. She did have many unhealthy lifestyle factors (smoking, drinking). I do not smoke, rarely drink, normal weight, normal blood pressure and only have GI issues, such as gastritis.

I did have an ECHO 7 years ago with bubble test but that came out fine? It's confusing to me how that test showed nothing but this one showed both (which they said was there when I was born).

I do not know the size but they said it was small. That's all I know. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Yes, very frustrating.  This test was done to just check things. My NP is not concerned about it. I am meeting with a different doctor to get another opinion.

hello, it is frustrating when they treat what could be a serious problem like its nothing. i hope you do research and become smarter on what the ASA and PFO are.  i have been reading the report of a 2003 TEE which shows a mild aneurysmal motion of the interatrial septum, among other findings. Pretty scary stuff, especially when a very recent TEE didn't see that (or the cardiologist didn't look for it and report it).

If you don't mind me asking, what are your symptoms?
