PVS and beta blockers

Can anyone tell me if a beta blocker should be used for a harmless PVC. I had quite a few last summer, then they changed by blood pressure meds and they seems to go away. I'd feel one from time to time but not many. Then, my doctor tried to add a diueretic along with my Micardis and the PVS came back to be noticable again. I've done the 3 week holter monitor test and I was diagnosed with harmless PVCs last summer. I have been asked if I'd like to try a beta blocker and I'm unsure. I am concerned about my heart rate going to low and the huge list of side effects I read about them. The palpitations drive me nuts and scare me to no end. They can tell me I'm fine, and it's hard to take I'll just learn to "live with these". Also, they explained that dehydration and hormonal changes can make PVCs more often/stronger. Is this true? Any related information that can help me make an informed decision with my doctor would be very helpful. Thanks!

hi WVAN , its your choice, i have been on beta blockers for 25 years now because i have reall fast heart beat if i dont take them, i have lots of pac very few pvc, but they are harmless.   yes when am having them 3000 a day i run to dr see if there is another pill i can take to stop them but sadly there is not one , so even on a pill you will still have them now and than.   yes they make them seem less because they are not so forcefull, but totally up to you.

They are correct in saying that dehydration or any change in sympathetic tone can cause palpitations such as those caused by PVC's.  Multiple pvc's, when symptomatic are best treated with beta blockers.  There are many patients out there who take beta blockers and have none to minimal side effects.  Given that you are having symptoms i would strongly encourage you to take these meds.  If the PVC's break through the beta blockers and you continue to have symptoms you could consider seeing an electrophysiologist for a possible PVC ablation procedure.
