Post Cath Ablation for WPW

Im 24 and got a Cath Ablation done last September to fix WPW (Wolff Parkinton White Syndrom), the surgery was fine was even allowed to leave same day, The two weeks ever nothing to major a few start stop palpitations like the EP Surgeon told me to expect, but now here I am in February, had my Post op Check up with my surgeon, told him about the skipped beats I was having, and He didnt seem to be worried about it. Well Just after the appointment, I want to say a week later, I had a sudden Start stop. I wasnt doing anything I was just sitting and had like 3 strong beats, then the next day it happened twice, Start stop, then a second or two later another start stop. Then just today it happened once... Its scaring me because They havent happened since October... Im scared. I am hoping it is just the heart healing and it will go away....

Thank you for commenting back its a little scary and off putting when im just sitting here and then BAM feels like its wanting to start up another round of palpitations.

As for the added potassium I guess that gives me an excuse to make more banana nut bread!!!!! :)

Before I was diagnosed with WPW and had the surgery I thought it was just normal and was already taking the steps to stop the palpitations without having to go to the hospital every time... But after i got the news I had it, it almost made it that much worse... I feel like half the time the surgery and the condition are keeping me from moving up north with my bf and having my life stuck in pause...

Hi there,

I also had WPW and cardiac ablation for it in 2007.

What you are experiencing now are PVC's and PAC's - which are the extra heartbeats/skipped beats that you feel.  They are completely harmless and most people have them.

From my experience:  once you've had SVT's and Afib and other arrhythmias you do notice your heartbeats more than the normal person and it can drive you crazy if you allow it!  The best is to live with it and as long as your heart is beating, you are doing fine :)

Add some bananas to your diet as the added potassium will help to minimize the skipped/extra beats.

Alarming symptoms that you shouldn't ignore:  edema/swelling of legs, shortness of breath and chest pains.

I hope the info helped.  You are not alone in your battle and we're here for you if you need to talk or get some more advice.

All the best and let us know how you are doing.
