I agree with you - the hot honey water works! :) I like to drink Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea when I'm sick, too. Have you ever tried a neti pot? My husband swears by it but I can't stand the sensation of hot water running through my sinuses. I am trying to get used to it and it really works well when your nose is stuffy.
I haven't taken a cold or flu medicine since 1995. I refuse to. Whatever I have, I can suffer through it. I make my immune system to the entire job, with rest and fluids in my arsenal. I like hot honey/lemon water when I feel nasty. It really works, corny as it sounds. It's better than a ton of palps.
That said, illness all by itself increases my susceptibility to having extra beats. I just had a cold here recently, and at the worst of it I had a few extra PACs here and there.
I avoid cold meds too because of the effect they have on my heart. It may also be the alcohol content in some. Personally, I can't drink alcohol because in a few hours my heart goes wonky. Oh well.
My palpitations generally do get worse with illness, especially if I have fever. And I never take over the counter cold medicine because the pseudoephedrine in it can make your palps and/or tachycardia worse, so I just suffer through. I do use nasal saline solution when my nose is extremely stuffed up.
