I just posted something similar under an old question, so thought I would make it a separate expanded post. I've been on coreg (50mg) since I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2006 (age 54). I've seen doctors from UT Southwest to the Cleveland Clinic. My ejection fraction has been measured from mid 20s to mid 40s. The latest heart cath put it at 30%, the most recent echo put it at 36%. The Cleveland Clinic cardiologist I saw last year explained to me that the ejection fraction numbers are all subjective and he noted some people with an EJ of 20% can be operating normally, while another person with an EJ of 40% can be virturally incapacitated.
For me it's the fatigue I'm finding hard to live with. Before my diagnosis I could work a full time job, teach a college course at night, do yard work and play in racquetball tournaments on the weekends. Now, I'm lucky if I can log 3000 steps on level ground on my pedometer. I've read that coreg causes severe fatigue. I've experimented by cutting my dose in half (taking just 25mg at night before bed). I'm not sure if it's the placebo effect or not, but I actually do feel a bit better the next day when I skip my coreg dosage in the morning. I don't want to do my heart any long term damage, but I would love to get off some of these meds. Is there a substitute for coreg without fatigue? Anyone else have any feedback for me? I want to put more "living" in my days.
