possible Afib?

Please see what I felt yesterday. THis has never really happened to me. This morning when I woke up my heart rate was elevated. I went to the gym and just walking casually on the treadmill my heart rate jumped to125-130bpm. Once into a brisk walk it would go to 140bpm then come back down to 120bpm. It would stay constant for awhile then jump up 10-15bpm then go back down. Could this be an arrythmia like an Afib?

I need some input please! I'm a 31 yr old Male. I was jogging on the treadmill today about 30 minutes into my 40 minute run. My heart rate was constant at about 148-150bpm. I started feeling a little anxious and then my heart rate started increasing about 2-3 bpm every 4-5 sec. Within 15 sec I was up around 162 bpm. I then immediately slowed down to a steady walk and my heart rate came down to 125-130bpm within a minute. After walking briskly for another 5 minutes I increased the speed again to 5 mph and ran for about 5 minutes with no problem keeping my heart rate around 147-149bpm but feeling a bit anxious. The feeling then came over me again and my heart rate just increased like it did before. I then slowed down and it came down again. I got off the treadmill worried. Some background info. I was recently diagnosed with a mild MVP with trival leak. The doctor ran a slew of tests last month including holter, ekg, stress echo, etc. He was not concernced about this at all. Everything was fine and he said I could continue to work out and run with no issues or restraints. I have been running for about 2months now with no problems at all. Two things were a little different today that may have caused this (1) I feel like I'm coming down with a cold (2) I drank an Airborne (full of vitamin C, echiniacia and all kinds of herbsother things for when you are getting sick) just prior to the gym. Could this have caused it? My doctor friend thinks I'm crazy. What could this have possibly been?

Please learn to trust your own doctor, or find one that you feel more comfortable with.  Mild MVP with a "trivial" leak is a very common finding, one that a lot of people have and don't even know about. It should not cause you any symptoms. Sounds like you've had a good medical workup and have been given the go-ahead to exercise.  Perhaps you should talk to your doctor about anxiety. It seems that you worry somewhat excessively....??  Just my take.  Hope you're feeling better.

It doesn't sound like you have afib to me. The heart rate with afib is regularly irregular. That is, the rate varies all over the place second to second, minute to minute.  It doesn't remain constant for even a few seconds (it's random), whereas NSR doesn't vary by more than 10% over a minute. When I'm in afib and at rest, I might get 4 beats in 5 seconds, 8 the next 5 seconds, 5 the next etc. Over minutes, the rate varies from 55 to 75 (in my case). What you are describing is a increasing rate (due to oxygen debt or anxiety) with time or a high constant rate (SVT?). I would suspect anxiety in your case. You are probably worried about nothing.
