Stress echo test

I had a treadmill test and afterwards whilst relaxing my heart rate shot up and I felt light headed, weak and could not stop shaking. I have a possible hole in heart.  Was this a shock reaction on my heart?

Thank you for your reply. I have had a bubble test for the hole in heart which showed up something and the stress echo was a follow on.  Here in England you do not get immediate responses, so I have no idea what this all meant.  Three times this happened whilst trying to recover but the heart rate rapidly increased upon sitting on couch and the other symptoms.  Another Dr was called in and they went for a discussion in the corner so I could not hear anything. Ity took 30 mins for my heart rate to stablise.  I am prone to TIAs and on clopidogrel for this. Quite worried about it and will have to wait until my follow up appointment which usually takes 2 months in England!! Thanks for your input

When the heart rate increases that is an indication the body system is demanding more blood/oxygen and light headed may be due to a drop of blood pressure.  The etiology can be the fast heart rate has caused low blood pressure. With a fast heart rate pumping ventricles do not have enough time to fill sufficiently with blood before the each contraction, and the cardiac output decreases in spite of the faster heart rate. Other abnormally rapid heart rhythms such as ventricular tachycardia also can produce low blood pressure.

A hole in the heart can cause hypoxia.  Hypoxia is reduced oxygenated blood to heart cells, and if there is shunting of blood from the right to left side of the heart chambers, the right sided blood has not been oxygenated through the lungs and reduces the oxygenated blood supply pumped to the heart and other parts. With this condition, the system will increase the heart rate to provide more oxygenated blood.

Usually a slow returning heart rate after exercise may indicate heart problems. If the heart rate has dropped by less than 12 bpm one minute after stopping exercise this may indicate an increased risk of heart attack Is the generally accepted dx.  Are you on medication? What is the comment of your doctor for this occurence?

Hope this helps and provides an easy solution, and there are no serious issues. Take care
