Heart is higher

I had a mild heart attack last year and open heart surgery following that.  My heart rate after surgery was in low 50s and 60s. I have been exercising ever since my surgery and have found that my heart rate is now in the 70s.  Also at first my heart rate would come down very quickly but now I find that it takes a longer time for it to come down.

Dear Alex78,

I am glad you are recovering well from your heart surgery. I don't think that what you are describing represents a serious condition. This perception of a difference in your heart rate may be related to medications and deconditioning associated with surgery. I would recommend continuing your exercise program and possibly consider participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question,

I beleive that I misstated my question.  I have been exercising since May 2002 and it was not until just 3 weeks ago that my resting heart rate changed.
