What does occassional pvc mean on a holter monitor?

I had a 24 hour holter monitor done by my internists.  I was referred to a cardiologist who said that I had 1000 pvcs in a 24 period according to the holter monitor.  Is this what the term occasional means?  My cardiologist said occassional and normal.  Help!!!  It sounds like a lot!!

A PVC is an electrical event, and although there is generally associated muscle activity, this is not necessarily so. Most people throw ocasional PVC's. Don't be concerned. Sometimes cutting out cola or caffeine drinks will reduce the number significantly.

Ditto what Jon says, I had PVCs all my life, as did my father, mother, brothers and sisters.  My father died at age 87 of cancer and my mother died of an unknown reason at age 95, my brothers and sisters and I are in our 70's.  I've had a lot of heart issues, but all are not related to PVC's.

It's really not many, but that's easy to say when it's happening to some one else. I have 4,000 per day and know people with 20,000 plus. Your cardiologist will most likely do an echo to make sure your heart has a normal structure which it probably does. If that's normal these things don't really mean anything, they're just annoying.

Just try to relax until you see the cardiologist, but these are almost always insignificant.

Hope this helps,

Jon
