What is the worst heart disease?
If caught early enough then the damage can be limited, but again each case is different.
I would have to say anything genetic is probably the worse. Especially DCM if genetic. This is much harder to control.
The one that kills you? Seriously, there are numerous types of heart disease that can be fatal. It doesn't get any worse than that, by definition. Most types of heart disease can be treated, coped with, and managed, though. Maybe the worst type of heart disease is the one you don't even know you have until you die from it. There are some of those.
A man died as he was crossing the finish line of a local marathon here a few years ago. He finished the race (and with a decent time in the middle of the pack), got a few feet past the finish line and signaled the sideline volunteers for help, collapsed onto the ground, and was in cardiac arrest by the time someone got to his side. Rescusitation attempts failed. He had no previous diagnosis of heart disease but was found on autopsy to have a rare type of congenital abnormality of the coronary arteries. It had never been diagnosed. I can't remember the details, but it seems to me the news articles said there was something about his actually finishing the marathon and being in that moment of relief from a stressor that triggered his heart attack.
Maybe that's the worst. But then, some people would say, well he died doing what he loved, and he never was sick or disabled, and he was only in distress for a matter of minutes or perhaps seconds, so maybe that's not so bad. Maybe that's not as bad as being sick for years and years and not being able to live the life you want. I don't know what's worst. But several types of heart disease can be fatal.
